Haiti Quake Relief Suggestions

Some suggestions for donating to relief efforts after the devastating earthquake in Haiti:

One comes via frequent D&ampS contributor Marie Kennedy, who says:

Please consider donating to Grassroots International’s earthquake relief fund for Haiti. I am on the board of Grassroots International, have traveled to Haiti a number of times and know well the organizations in Haiti through which any funds would be channeled. Thank you for whatever you can do.

The other suggestion comes via D&S collective member and Bentley University economist Bryan Snyder, who suggests Yele. Bryan says: “Just text ’501501′ and write in ‘Yele’ for a $5.00 contribution to earthquake relief.”

Partners in Health would also be a good bet. I just went to their website and apparently Tracey Kidder, who wrote that book about Paul Farmer and Partners in Health, will be on the Rachel Maddow show tonight to talk about the earthquake.

I’m not sure if anyone has suggested port-a-potties to cut back on sanitation issues. This will prevent feces, urine to be absorbed into the soil and prevent the spread of some illness, also you all could use metal or solar can to burn the blood and body fluids. Rosazyn,Raleigh, NC
