I've traveled all over the world and I can tell you that you better hope nothing happens to you in Mexico. Recently a American woman was hit and killed while walking back from the grocery store by a drunk driver in Progreso, Mexico. The suspect (Carlos Martin Rubio Cruz) was apprehended. His insurance paid a fine of 10,000usd and he was free. Not even the consulate could help this family who was left to pick up the pieces. Nope, Mexico isn't as safe as you might think.
